Child and Teen Autism Evaluations

Bright Futures Team-Child Autism Evaluations

Bright Futures provides comprehensive autism evaluations for children aged 24 months and older. Our evaluations encompass the use of the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and the ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised). We also gather information from the BASC-3 and ASRS Autism Spectrum Rating Scales. We utilize these assessments and the language of the DSM as they are the current standard required by insurance companies. While we recognize these fall under the medical model of disability, our preference as providers is to view your child’s challenges through the social model of disability, and this is how we frame our recommendations. When sharing resources, we prioritize autistic voices.

We remain current with our understanding of autism, and recognize how factors such as being female, high-masking, and/or having high anxiety may impact how characteristics of autism present. We have extensive knowledge and specialize in the areas of co-occurring ADHD, giftedness, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance or Persistent Drive for Autonomy). While PDA is not formally recognized yet in the US, we will include this in the diagnostic profile and add appropriate recommendations.

In addition, we offer full speech and language evaluations, occupational therapy assessments, and ADHD testing to address any related concerns.

We understand that undergoing an evaluation can be stressful for families, and we prioritize ensuring that the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible. Our team strives to schedule evaluations promptly, and we are committed to providing comprehensive reports with personalized recommendations within a reasonable timeframe. As part of our diagnostic team, we collaborate with local physicians, ensuring a holistic evaluation approach. We include meetings with your child’s other healthcare providers (physicians, counselors, psychiatrists, etc.) and teachers to ensure we have a well-rounded picture of your child.

Our evaluations occur in a smaller office setting on the second floor to create a comfortable and distraction-free environment. We have limited families in our space at any given time, so the waiting room is not overly crowded. Our office is conveniently accessible from the street, and ample parking is available to make your visit hassle-free.

With their extensive experience of nearly 25 years each, Melissa Baker MS., CCC-SLP and Jennifer Blankenship, MSW, LISW, BCBA, will personally guide you through the evaluation process. Their expertise and compassion ensure that you and your child feel comfortable and supported every step of the way. We value your input and encourage you to inform us of any sensory sensitivities or specific accommodations that will contribute to a more positive experience during the evaluation.

We have a shorter waiting list as we are out-of-network with insurance companies (private pay). We can provide a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company. Our team can give you the codes to check with your insurance carrier regarding any potential reimbursement. This is not handled by the Bright Futures Team. On the day of the evaluation, you will be charged the full amount of 1700.00 which includes a thorough report with recommendations as well as a medical sign-off. If additional ADHD testing is required, the total cost is 1900.00.
